Fishing
All of our yachts have a fishing rod onboard - we usually troll a line when sailing from island to island and will often catch yellow fin, wahoo, mahi-mahi or similar .... which might become lunch, served fresh off the yachts barbecue or as a sushi/sashimi dish!
Scuba Diving
Some of the most spectacular dive sites in the Bahamas are around the Abacos.
Because of direct exposure to the Atlantic Ocean, the reefs here are fairly shallow, mostly 60 feet or less, which means that the incredible elkhorn and star coral formations are easily accessible to both scuba divers and snorkelers alike. Combine these amazing corals with a superabundance of marine life - ranging all the way from the tiniest of reef fishes to turtles, dolphins, eagle rays and sharks (and some of the clearest water in the world) and you have the experience of a lifetime.
Water Temperature: The temperature of the crystal-blue water averages an amazing 80°F year-round, which means that it’s perfect for diving and other water adventures, such as snorkeling.
Wet Suits: Lycra skin and/or 3-5 millimeter wet suits are recommended. However, your thermal protection should be based on your individual sensitivity and comfort. (Please note - TradeWinds does NOT provide suits. Please bring one with you). Here is a suggested guide:
• Jan-Mar: 3mm or 5mm full suit
• Apr-May: 3mm full suit
• Jun-Aug: No wet suit required
• Sep-Oct: 1mm - 3mm wet suit
• Nov: 3mm - 5mm wet suit
• Dec: 3mm - 5mm full wet suit
Local Dive Shops: For those divers who wish to come to Abacos prior to your TradeWinds cruise, and either do some recreational diving or perhaps want or need a refresher course, there are many dive operators here to choose from:
